HOLIDAY MAGIC IN THE MAKING: 5 Years of Ebenezer Scrooge

To celebrate our 5th Anniversary holiday production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Lake Country Playhouse recently sat down to talk with our 5th Anniversary Scrooge, local Milwaukee actor Marty Graffenius. We discussed his first memories of A Christmas Carol, his favorite moments, and what he hopes LCP audiences take away from this special holiday tradition.

LCP: Do you recall your first experience with A Christmas Carol?

MG: My first experience with A Christmas Carol was in grade school. There was a play in our English textbook. I got to play Scrooge then, too

Do you have a favorite part or moment of the story?

My favorite moment is the scene with Marley. It has a great give and take between two old friends.

What do you think makes A Christmas Carol such an enduring story?

Deep down everyone wants to feel their life matter and that who we are and what we do makes a difference.

What are you looking forward to most about this 5th Anniversary production?

Anniversaries commemorate achievement. We all look forward to achieving a great show and to bring happiness and warm to our audiences.

What do you hope audiences take away after seeing A Christmas Carol?

I hope people enjoy themselves, that the story makes them think a little, and that we help them get into the Christmas spirit.

If you could choose to be visited by one of the Ghosts, which would you choose and why?

We all have people in our lives who were very dear to us. Marley was Scrooge's only friend I know of someone in my life who has passed, who never got to see me on stage, and who I miss a lot. I would like to spend just a few moments with them.
